Detached homes are still holding their value with tighter supply, while condos are giving buyers real room to negotiate. Overall we're sitting in balanced territory, which is honestly a nice change of pace after the last few years. |

| | | | | | WHAT CANADIANS ARE DOING DIFFERENTLY WITH THEIR HOMES THIS SUMMER Everyone talks about the logistics of moving, but nobody really warns you about the emotional realities you will have to face as well. Moving has a strange way of turning everyday things sentimental. The spot where your dog always sat by the window. The scratch on the wall you promised yourself you would paint over three years ago. Even the grocery store cashier you barely spoke to somehow starts feeling important the week before you leave. Then there are the funny realities no one prepares you for. At some point, you will absolutely lose your phone charger for at least six hours. You will pack something “carefully” only to discover it somehow made things worse. There is always one mystery box labeled “miscellaneous,” and nobody knows what is inside, including the person who packed it. You also quickly learn that unpacking is less of a weekend activity and more of a slow lifestyle choice. One of the best things you can do before moving is declutter harder than you think you need to. If you forgot you owned it until you found it in the back of a closet, there is a good chance you do not need to bring it to the next place. Future you will be grateful when unpacking day arrives. Another underrated tip is to pack a “first night” bag separately with essentials like chargers, pajamas, medications, snacks, and coffee supplies. Nothing feels more chaotic than searching through twelve boxes at midnight trying to find a toothbrush. A new home rarely feels perfect on day one. The comfort comes later, through routines, takeout nights, and learning which floorboard creaks at 2 AM. That is the real secret about moving. Eventually, the unfamiliar becomes home. |

| | | | | Ok, so Canmore is not exactly local and this is definitely not a small business, but I have to share this one. Last night we had dinner at Hunter Steakhouse in Canmore and it was such a great night. Hunter is the newest concept from the Concorde Group, and I’m convinced everything they touch turns to gold. This was no exception. We kept it classic: New York striploin with béarnaise sauce, creamed spinach, and lobster ravioli. Everything came together the way a proper steakhouse dinner should, and it felt like the kind of meal you slow down for. Dessert might have been my favourite part. We shared a Baked Alaska, which I love because you just don't see it on menus much anymore (and yes they flambéed the cherries jubilee tableside, which was delightful!🔥), and I tried the Dubai chocolate martini. If you've seen the pistachio chocolate trend everywhere lately, this is that in a glass, and it works. 🍸 Sometimes it takes a new restaurant a little while to hit its stride, and despite it being completely packed for the dinner rush, I think they handled it pretty well. If you're planning a trip to Canmore, or just looking for a reason to go, dinner at Hunter is a good one. Has anyone else tried it yet? I'd love to hear what you ordered. |

Date: July 23 - 26, 2026 Four days of music at Prince's Island Park, with 65+ artists playing eight stages in concerts and collaborative sessions covering everything from folk to funk to global sounds and hip hop. The riverside setting is half the appeal, and the workshop-style sessions where artists jam together are something you rarely see at other festivals. Date: July 31 - August 8, 2026 Nine days of unjuried, uncensored indie theatre, meaning shows are chosen by lottery rather than a committee, so the range runs from stand-up storytelling to drama to the wonderfully weird. Shows are short and affordable, which makes it easy to gamble on two or three in one evening. Ticket revenue goes directly to the artists, so seeing a show is the most direct way to support them. | | Marda Gras Street Festival
Date: August 9, 2026 Calgary's longest running street festival takes over 33rd Avenue SW for a car-free day with four stages of live music and dance, over 250 small businesses, food trucks and local artisans. It draws around 40,000 people but still feels like a neighbourhood party, and the Pet Pageant at 1:30 pm on the main stage is a genuine highlight. A free shuttle runs from the Military Museums, so parking is not the headache you would expect. Location: 33rd Avenue SW between 18th and 22nd Streets, Marda Loop
